Ugh....

I seem to have caught some kind of stomach flu last night, as sleeping was absolutely miserable. When I woke up this morning, I had a splitting headache and felt like throwing up. Needless to say, I didn’t think it would be wise to go to Occoruro today. I felt bad since the community presentation was today, but I didn’t want to get anyone else sick either. As a result, the day was pretty boring, as I just rested, hoping to be better by tomorrow.

It is days like this that I am really appreciative of my host family. I feel as though I have been sick a lot over the past two weeks, but they just keep helping in whatever way they can. For example, Margarita made me a glass of Manzanilla tea, which helps to soothe the stomach. She also had a pill for me to help ease my stomach further. For lunch, she made me some really nice chicken soup, which was exactly what I needed. It seems as though whatever I have, they are looking to help me in whatever way possible.

In a great end to an otherwise depressing day, Margarita brought us cuy from the market for dinner. Although I wasn’t feeling 100%, I couldn’t turn down cuy. The flavor was really different from anything I have ever had. It had the texture of chicken, but had a really strong aftertaste. I feel that many people wouldn’t like it, but I thought it was great. I don’t think I would ever be able to eat an entire one by myself, but the part I had today was great.

That’s all for today. I’ll rest up and hopefully feel good enough to help the group out in Occoruro tomorrow.
