Today was our fourth lesson in the schools. It was pretty effective, and I felt that all of the students really connected with us. Since the first lesson, we have changed our lesson plans to be more interactive and to have less lecture. This way, the students do not lose interest and it makes it easier for us to teach them. The best part of today’s lesson was our play, which was written in the mold of a superhero story. There was a superhero, Captain of Nature, a villain (Mr. Trash), and two confused kids. The students loved the plot of the story, and I think this really helped push our point across.
In the afternoon, I had Spanish class. Our times changed yet again today, and I now have class from 4-5:30pm. While this isn’t any better for me, it is great for the group as a whole, since no one has class after 7pm now. This will make it easier for us to plan group activities and for us to bond together.
In the evening, I planned for our presentation tomorrow in the community. Three of us, Jordan, Jina, and me are presenting on how to use the micro rellenos. I really hope the presentation goes well tomorrow, although I am worried if the community members will understand what we are saying. Many of the community members’ first language is Quechua, so it will be interesting to see how the communication works out.
