Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I will be using this to communicate with all of you about the daily happenings during my experience with DukeEngage in Cusco, Peru. I am volunteering with the international organization ProWorld, and I am in the public health sector. On Mondays, I will be volunteering in an elementary school, providing public health education to 6-12 year olds. From Tuesday-Friday, I will be volunteering in the rural community of Occoruro, situated about 40 minutes outside of Cusco. There, I will be helping to improve health conditions and provide education to the community members. Some of the projects I will be helping with are the installation of ecological refrigerators, the construction of shelves for food organization, and the construction of coops for chickens and guinea pigs. We will also be helping to construct micro rellenos de basura, which can be thought of as compost bins. There will be one for organic wastes and another for inorganic wastes.
With regards to posts, I will make an effort to post something every day, but due to internet availability, once every couple of days might be more feasible. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the blog, and please leave any comments if you want me to explain anything a little bit more in depth.
